AFRICA'S RAIN FORESTS
Africa's rain forests are very quickly being destroyed. People are cutting down a LOT of trees for profit. I'd be surprised if half the rain forest was still there. There is a way we could help though, but it would a LOT of people to help. We all could plant trees. It would take millions of people to plant trees because of all the trees that have been cut down in Africa. Somalians are trying hard and some Ethiopians to repair this disaster. YOU can help. Trees give us oxygen and everyday we cut down our oxygen and we bring out our pollution. You can help save the rain forests!
THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS
The Rocky Mountains are very beautiful, if you have ever seen them. Unfortunately, something not to pretty is about to happen. They are clearing a lot of the trees that support life in the Rocky Mountains to build...... gulp.... a mining center. It will horribly pollute the rocky mountains and they will be gone forever. There is not much we can do about it but, to gather lots of people and protest about it. That might not be to peaceful though. So, that is the way it is, but it is not what mother nature brings us.
THE EVERGLADES
Now known as a canal. It used to be so beautiful and full of life. Until, the wrong human-interaction occurred. Farms were built around the Everglades and fertilizers poured into the Everglades. People thought that if they made the Everglades connect to other rivers, and they built the Everglades straight, it would stop some fertilizers from coming in the water. Then people built a canal (Miami Canal) that hooked onto the Everglades. The Miami Canal led straight into Miami. As populated as it is, there was lots of garbage in the Miami Canal which also meant, lots of garbage in the Everglades. So, if you are planning a trip to see the beautiful Everglades, it is mostly polluted. There are areas of it that are beautiful, because people are starting to help it more, by letting nature do the talking.
THE AQUIFER
The aquifer gives us our drinking water. Only 2% of all the water on Earth is drinkable and is part of our aquifer. Jinnie springs is one of the most well- cared- for springs in America. No motor boats allowed, only Kayaks and Canoes. Even though the aquifer is underground, it can still be polluted. People who are licensed to dive in the aquifer and check on environmental statuses, enter through a hole that starts on the top of the ground and dives underground. That is their worst part, diving in, because there
is SO MUCH garbage. That ALL goes into our drinking water. The little amount of water we have to drink gets so much garbage in it. When people dive in the aquifer, they see lots of barrels of gas tanks wide open with lots of gas in it, spreading all throughout the water. That is wrong! There is also lots of cans and wrappers and, everything! Toward the middle of the aquifer though, it is very clean but, is getting filthier each day. We will lose our water if we keep polluting it. Help, by preserving water and not littering!
THE POLAR BEARS
The polar bears and other arctic animals are almost extinct. Pollution and mining are warming the earth (people think of this a s global warming). The icecaps are slowly melting and the glaciers. It is very sad because the polar bears and the other arctic animals depend on that ice to stand on and tend their babies. If this keeps happening, all of Miami will be flooded and so will other parts of the world! You can help by turning off lights after you leave a room, limiting computer and TV time, and using solar power! I make a day each month where I don't use any electricity at all for the whole day! You can try it and save your pocket and the Earth!
